X-PLANE 12 Β· SIM CONNECT
Disconnected
X-PLANE 12 SETUP β STEP BY STEP
X-Plane 12.1.1 or newer runs the Web API automatically on port 8086 β there is no separate "enable" toggle.
Open X-Plane β Settings β Network and leave Disable Incoming Trafficunchecked (otherwise the API returns 403 Forbidden).
If this EFB is on the same computer as X-Plane, use 127.0.0.1 and port 8086, then hit CONNECT.
For a school laptop over Wi-Fi: X-Plane currently listens on loopback only, so run a small WebSocket proxy on the sim PC (for example xplane-proxy) and enter the sim PC's LAN IP + the proxy's port here. Allow that port through the sim PC's firewall.
If the connection fails from a file:// page, serve this folder over HTTP instead: python3 -m http.server 8000, then open http://localhost:8000.
X-Plane's built-in Web API is intentionally local-only for now. A proxy on the sim PC is the supported way to connect a second machine; the EFB itself keeps working offline if the sim is unavailable.
When connected: live ownship position/heading/altitude/GS on the map, dynamic NAVLOG times and fuel, and the header telemetry bar update from the simulator. Offline route planning, weather and PDF export keep working with the sim disconnected.
